In this session, we will develop a deeper understanding of high quality phonological awareness instruction. Utilizing findings from relevant research, we will learn the sequence of phonics skills students need to learn and explore best practices for building up our students' decoding skills according to their own individual needs. Alison Wheat has been supporting students and educators for 12 years in K-6 classrooms around the Dallas Fort Worth area. She has spent time as a 1st, 2nd, and 5th grade classroom teacher. She has also served as an ELA Instructional Coach at campus and district level. She is also a private ADHD coach and literacy consultant. Her published work and presentations typically focus on literacy best practices and advocacy/support for neurodiverse students including those with ADHD and ASD. Her work has been featured by TALE, TCTELA, and SXSW Edu.
